Background and Mission of the Virginia SIDS Alliance
Since its inception in 1994, the Virginia SIDS Alliance has been dedicated to serving families, educating the public and professionals about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and eliminating SIDS through research. These three goals provide the framework of the organization’s mission. Of the 138 cities and counties in Virginia, the SIDS Alliance serves 118, consisting of those in the eastern, central and southwestern Virginia. The remaining 20 cities and counties are served by SIDS Alliance of the Mid-Atlantic. The Virginia SIDS Alliance was incorporated as a non-profit, tax exempt, 501(c)3 charitable organization affiliated with the national SIDS Alliance, Inc. effective July 1, 1994. The organization’s board includes SIDS parents, SIDS grandparents, and members of the medical, pastoral and grief counseling fields.
